See, A New Thing

Isaiah 43:18-19, ‘Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.’

God is doing something new; greater than anything we have ever experienced in our life time. A revival outpouring is breaking out on all people. God is making us revival ready. What a privilege to be alive in such times.

New things can seem exciting and fresh. We all want the new- or do we? I have learnt by observing our own family how we all have different responses when it comes to the new. Some love the change and the challenge, whilst others prefer things to remain the same or at least to change gradually.

As I was reflecting upon my life recently, with gratitude to God for all of his goodness to us, I realised something. The past was wonderful but the past has passed. Steve surprised me recently by referring to our kids as grown children. I realised our children had grown, the season had changed. I want our children to grow and do what they are called to do and yet change is quite unsettling for me as a Mum. This September many new things are happening including our son, Joel, leaving home for a new job. He is full of excitement and we know it is the right thing for him but it hurts to let go of the old and to embrace the new.

God is doing something new with us as an All Nations family. We are growing and that growth leads to change. Our past has been wonderful but it is time to embrace the new. Similarly, in our natural family we are discovering new rhythms and patterns. We are looking to and trusting the Lord which is critical for us all. Let us use this season of prayer and fasting to reflect upon all God has done, thank Him and trust Him for what comes next.

Everything I know of God teaches me to trust Him and we do this by walking with Him in His Word and in prayer. I will definitely be praying more for my children in this season. Our response to the new that God is doing must be the same; thankfulness rooted in God’s words and living lives of prayer.

Inward prayer: Lord, would you give us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know you better. Open our eyes and help us to see the new.

Outward prayer: Lord, help us to see those around us and encourage them in a new season.
