Kingdom Life

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.’ Colossians 3:1-4

What do you think about the most? What consumes your thought? Food, sex, money? What we behold is what we become. In his book ‘Live No Lies,’ John Mark Comer goes on to explain that our habits determine our thought processes, our though processes create neural pathways in our brain, our neural pathways create strongholds. It all starts with our thought process which is directly related to what we see and think about.

Here in Colossians 3, Paul tells us to set our sights on the realities of heaven. This is ancient wisdom that has only recently been discovered by modern day science and psychology.

Where do you set your mind? What are the things you think about? What are the things you behold? These create the strongholds in our mind.

Paul tells us to set our eyes on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at the place of honour at God’s right hand. What an incredible reality. Yes, the picture we read in Revelation 4 and 5, the throne room of heaven- that is where we are to fix our gaze.  When we do so, life flows from within us and we enjoy, the riches and the pleasures of Christ and we share in His glory (Colossians 3:4).

If you’re anything like me, this can be a struggle! It’s so easy to let our minds drift off the track we are called to be on. Here are 3 simple ways that help us set our sights on the realities of heaven:

1 - Reading the Bible: The Bible is God’s truth. When we immerse ourselves in God’s Word we immerse ourselves in His truth.

2 - Prayer and Fasting: Prayer & Fasting is turning down the things of the world to focus our attention on Jesus. During the last week of this 21 days of prayer and fasting, let’s push in with everything we have and fix our eyes on heaven.

3 - Worship: ‘I lift my eyes to the hills’ the Psalmist says (Psalm 121:1). Worship helps us to fix our gaze on Him.

When we behold Him, we become like Him! So let us fix our gaze on heaven where Christ is seated.

- Josh Raybould

Inward prayer: Lord, forgive me for when I have been distracted and chased the world, not You. Help me to set my gaze on you every day.

Outward prayer: Lord, may my life point others to You. In what I do, say and watch, may my friends and family see that You are my priority.
