The Joy of a Sharing Heart

The first joy was the leap of an unborn cousin,
Thanking God for His unspeakable gift before he, himself could speak.
And then his mother’s, a descendant of Aaron,
Like his staff- once barren, now budded and in bloom.
And then Mary’s, a new song in her mouth,
Good news she at last, was able to declare and share.

Mary, did you know that your baby boy…
Wrapped now in swaddling cloths,
Would exchange them for garments stained crimson;
To clothe you and me in salvation,
To array us in righteousness?
That He would become the beloved bridegroom of Solomon’s Song?
That your baby boy, meek and mild would be mighty to save,
The rebuilder and restorer of ancient ruins?

He would show and share His Father’s heart
He would say, ‘It is better to give then to receive.’
For God gave and we received;
Unto us a Son was given.
Like Father, like Son.
‘Our Father,’ He said.
Giving, sharing, cut from the same cloth.

Long awaited was His birth and much anticipated, His return.
