The Lord goes ahead of us
The good thing about Scripture is that no matter how many times you read it, we are always bound to get new revelations or different parts of Scripture highlighted to us at different times, guess that is why the Bible is called the living word of God. (Hebrews 4:12)
There are so many things to learn from today’s passage, which forms one of the hallmarks of the Christian faith as it talks about the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I will zero in on a line (highlighted below) that sprang forth to me when I was reading this passage on this occasion.
v5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. v7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: 'He has risen from the dead and is GOING AHEAD of you into Galilee. There you will see him.' Now I have told you."
Here we see a classic example of the struggle we as humans often face when it comes to believing the Lord for what has been spoken/promised and us working our faith towards it.
The Lord Jesus had already foretold his disciples ( v6) that he would rise on the third day, but both Marys were still going to look for him at the tomb. The tomb in this case I would say represented their doubt, need for reassurance, fear etc. I don’t know about you, but I can 100% relate to this, of times the Lord has spoken a word and after the initial enthusiasm of receiving the word has gone, a gravitation towards wanting to go check the “tomb” begins .
Maybe we received a word for 2024 and the enthusiasm of this word has now gone and fear and doubt are knocking at the door “will this year truly live to its promise ?…… we may even ask.”
This passage serves as an encouragement to us. Just as the angel of the Lord encouraged both Marys, To PROCEED to Galilee for Lord had already gone ahead of them, similarly I feel this to be a word for us today. The One who causes us to triumph according to 2 Cor 2:14, the One who makes crooked paths straight according to Isaiah 45:2 , is already going ahead of us in 2024 .
The kingdom of God is at hand & on the move! Therefore lets’ PRESS ON! in order ”...to take hold of all that our Lord Christ Jesus has ALREADY taken a hold for us in 2024 ( Philippians 3:12).
