Praying for the Royal Family

A few days ago, I clicked onto my news app and watched a short video of the Princess of Wales sharing with the world that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer. I felt really moved by her vulnerability and the reality of what she and her family are walking through. King Charles is also currently receiving treatment for cancer. It reminded me of the fragility of life, and how challenging it must be for them as a family in the public eye.

In 1 Timothy 2:1-4, we are encouraged by Paul to pray for all people, including those in authority. We are told that this is good and it pleases God.

I am also reminded of the spiritual battle that we are in, and that prayer is a weapon of warfare. (Ephesians 6:12-18)

Regardless of your perspective on the Royal Family, I believe that it is good and important to pray for them, and as we pray for them, pray also for all those who are undergoing health challenges.

Here are 3 ABCs to pray:

1) Awakening- to God’s presence and hope.

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you.’ Ephesians 1:17-18

2) Blessing- upon the family.

The Lord bless you
    and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
    and be gracious to you;
 the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace
.’
Numbers 6:24-26

3) Comfort- from God so that they can comfort others too.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.’ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
