Let’s go!
Hebrews 13:15-21
‘Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.’ Hebrews 13:20-21
What a great prayer to pray as we finish our 21 days of prayer and fasting! That the God of peace, the One who brought Jesus back from the dead, would equip YOU with everything good for doing his will! In your family, in your work place, in your College, in your neighbourhood, that God would work in YOU what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ.
When I used to play hockey, at half time we would have our pep talk. Whether we were winning or losing, it was a rally cry to push forwards, play our best and believe that we could do this! We were tired, sweaty, sometimes bruised, but when the coach reminded us of who we were and that she was behind us, we had a renewed confidence and surge of energy.
The prayer we’ve just read is such an empowered way to live. It’s a rally cry to remember who God is, what he has done in Jesus and what we can do because of this!
This is the way we were created to live, with God at work in us and through us, a partnership so that we will see the ‘immeasurably more’ breaking out around us.
But, what does this actually mean?
I believe that it means a smile and a conversation with a neighbour, or taking around a box of chocolates to new neighbours. It means offering to help a colleague with that difficult task, or doing the thing you don’t really want to do so that it blesses someone else. It means stopping in town to help a lady with a pushchair, and after she shares her struggles, offering to pray for her. It means going for a prayer walk into town and praying with people for them to encounter Jesus.
It means seeing your every day tasks and routines as opportunities to live honourably in every way (verse18), doing good and sharing with others (verse 16).
I believe that Kingdom living is simpler than we realise. If we stay close to Jesus, our Great Shepherd (verse 20), we become more like him and then we live more like him.
Keep going! You can do this! If God has brought Jesus back from the dead, then He can work in you and your life to do what seems impossible! He is for you and He is with you!
I pray that today your faith and hope in God’s immeasurably more would increase. I pray that God would equip you with everything good for doing his will, for the glory of Jesus Christ. Let’s go!
