Most Beautiful One

Close your eyes and picture the most beautiful thing you have ever seen, experienced or
perhaps wish to see and experience. Here are a few examples of things that are generally
considered beautiful:

● The birth of a child
● The vastness of the ocean
● Beautiful sunset or sunrise
● Our planet from space
● The grand canyon
● Beautiful music
● A lavishly furnished home
● A beautiful bride walking down the aisle

When we are faced with anything that is undeniably beautiful we cannot help but respond.
We might cry or watch in awed silence, we might shout or whisper words of adoration. We might worship. We worship because innate in everyone is a longing to worship our Heavenly Father, the most beautiful one.

Our scripture for today, Psalm 96:6 says,

Splendour and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.”

But I love how the passion paraphrases this scripture to give us such a visual of a God so
beautiful and majestic,

Breathtaking brilliance and awe-inspiring majesty radiate from his shining presence. His
stunning beauty overwhelms all who come before him
.”

Our world is obsessed with strength and beauty. We will follow, give money to, and yes worship the most beautiful powerful person or thing and this Psalm reminds us that our God is the most beautiful, breath-taking, brilliant, awe-inspiring majestic God and he is worthy of our praise and worship.

Sam Daniel (Elim Leytonstone) describes worship as a response to an encounter or
experience. When we encounter or experience the beauty and majesty of God, we cannot help but respond in worship. I believe that is why God created our world (the ocean, sky, music, art, birth, marriage) in a beauty and majesty that reflects his own, so that when we look to creation and marvel at its beauty, we cannot help but respond in worship.

The beginning of psalm 96 tells us to sing a new song to the lord. So why don’t you do that?

Again, picture the most beautiful things and tell him, he is much more beautiful than these
things. Our words are feeble but I believe our Father loves it when we try to worship him with our words and mean them. So you can say something like, 'Lord you are more glorious than a thousand spring mornings'. And If you are thinking, I am not a songwriter or poet well you can always borrow King David’s words or just start with, 'I love you Lord, most beautiful one.'
